?88-?89 CRX Projector headlight installation into ?90-?91 hatchback:
CRX headlights will fit in a hatchback, but require some slight modifications? You have 2 options: 1.) You can swap the mounting brackets from the OEM headlights to the projector headlights. 2.) You can use the projector?s mounting brackets and modify the corner lenses to fit. ** Personally, I would recommend swapping the mounting brackets? I didn?t do that, I used the projector brackets and modified the corner lenses, but in hindsight, it would?ve saved me a lot of trouble if I?d just swapped the brackets. ** For swapping the mounting brackets, you should be able to remove all screws/bolts from each set of lights, and swap everything over. Then, when you install the lights, all the bolts should line up, and the corner lenses should fit without modification. TOOLS/MATERIALS REQUIRED: = Assorted screw drivers = Assorted sockets/wrenches/pliers ? Remove front bumper. - Remove the 2 screws (Phillips) in each front fender well. - Remove bumper lenses (2 screws each) - Remove the 2 bolts under the bumper lip. - Remove the 4 bolts (2 on each side) that are behind the bumper lenses. ? Remove trim piece from below headlights/hood (1 bolt in center, 1 bolt (each side) under headlights, 1 bolt (each side) in corner lens holes. ? Remove OEM headlights (4 bolts each, 2 on top, 1 on side, 1 on bottom) ? Swap the OEM brackets for the Projector brackets. ? Install projectors, all bolts should line up. ? Re-install bumper trim and bumper (reverse of removal). ? Re-install corner lenses. For using the projectors mounting brackets: TOOLS/MATERIALS REQUIRED: = Assorted screw drivers = Assorted sockets/wrenches/pliers = Dremel tool with cutting disc = Drill = Long 1/8? metal drill-bit ? Remove corner lenses (one retaining screw in headlight bracket) ? Remove front bumper. - Remove the 2 screws in each front fender well. Install projectors, all bolts should line up properly. ? Re-install bumper trim and bumper (reverse of removal) ? Test fit the corner lenses. You?ll notice that the corner lens mounting bracket needs to be modified to fit into the projector mounting bracket. Use a dremel tool with a cutting disk to modify the corner lens mounting arm. ? Once the mounting arm fits, you will need to drill a hole in the headlight mounting brackets to accommodate the corner lens retaining screw. Use an extra long 1/8? drill bit and just drill through the hole in the corner lens mounting arm. ? Add a 1/8? metal screw to hold the corner lenses in place? Remember to have your projectors professionally aimed/aligned. Information provided by: 4thgenerationcivic.com |
