92-95 Civic Gauge Cluster and Odometer Swap

Since DX model civics did not come with a tachometer I swapped my original cluster with an EX cluster. A lot of people opt for the EX cluster instead of an aftermarket tachometer since it's "cleaner" and more stealth that a 5" monster tach.

I like to do everything by the book and wanted to retain the exact same mileage so I replaced the new EX speedometer/odometer (94k) with my original DX one (187k). I also added a Clock to my civic since it only takes a couple more minutes while you have the cluster out. I really don't understand how much money Honda saved by not having a tach or clock but at least all the wiring is there to add them on.

Also, remember to be very careful not to touch the needs on the cluster. They can easily "loose" their calibration so it's best if you don't touch them.

Cost: $80 for cluster, $20 for clock from ebay

1. Remove the two (2) screws from the inside top area of the bezel (ignore that the EX cluster in already installed in this pic)

2. Pry out your flasher button. Mine was a pain to get out, but go slow and you'll be fine. Remove the screw from behind flasher button. This screw is easy to miss and you can't get the bezel off without removing it. Pop open the right side of the bezel.

3. Now "pop out" the left side of the bezel. Grab the bezel below the ac vent and press up while pulling toward yourself. This clip is very tight and requires some work. Once you "unclip" the left side the bezel should be totally loose and ready for removal.

4. With the bezel removed now unscrew the four (4) screws that mount the cluster into the dash. Pull out the four (4) plugs in the back of the cluster. (once again, ignore that the EX cluster in already installed in this pic)

To install your original DX odometer in your new EX cluster, complete steps 5-7. Otherwise go to step 8.

5. Un-snap the clear plastic cover from your DX cluster. Three clips at the top, three at the bottom. Remember don't touch those needles!

6. Unscrew the three (3) screws pictured below and remove the speedometer/odometer gauge.

Another picture of the EX speedometer and odometer gauge.

7. Drop your original DX gauge into the EX cluster to keep your odometer. Replace the three (3) screws on the back of the cluster. Check out that nice 7200 RPM redline

8. Place clear plastic cover back on and plug back into the car. Reverse steps 1-4 to reinstall your cluster.
