this is gonna be a pretty general question but im just gettin into the honda game so any and all assistance would be nice. Im saling my nonturbo eclipse for 3 grand if i can get it. I would like to get a 88-91 crx body or civic hatch from 89-91. Im sure ill spend about 400 to 500 bucks on a body with no engine in pretty good shape. that leaves me with about 2,500. What kind of engine choices can i go with and stay within that budget. Including everything needed for the install.

Welcome bro!
![]() First off, I'd like to give you a hats off to your choices on your next ride. 4th gen years were one of the best. Rex's are the shit and 4 gen hatchies own. I've owned a 4th gen and am interested in a rex next myself. If there is anything you'd like to know, feel free to hit me up . . . anytime . . I won't even charge . . . that much! ![]() Anyway, there are a few rex's around here new york for a few hundred bucks . . I'm sure that you'll be able to find one in your area too . . you've just really got to keep your eyes opened and have the cash when one pops up. As far as the engine swap is concerned, you'll want to stick with the same series engine that came out of that year for the "easiest" way out. You are talking early 90's so you'll have what's known as a "D series" engine in there. They are called D based on the first letter in the engine code. If you are able to, look for a "zc" engine/tranny combo <-- only dohc d-series motor made. It's JDM (Jap domestic market) and will literally drop right in. There are a few other d series combos out there but I'm not 100% sure on them since I'm more of a "B" freak (newer/more support) You can also drop in one of those with a conversion kit (motor mounts etc) Either way, it all depends on YOUR budget so you'll have to be a bit more spacific as to exactly how much cash you intend on shelling out on your project. From then on out, you'll get alot more answers from people and definately alot more choices as to were you should look/what you can get. Hopefully I've been a bit helpfull to you for now. Like I said, any questions . . hit me up. That's what we're all here for. Make sure to check out the other threads on here in the crx/civix (4th gen) sections to see what others have asked . . . those questions will have alot to do with what you are after and will most likely have answers that you will be interested in . well . . I'm off . . Stick around and enjoy! ![]() Sam - |
