I have an 90 crx hf that I was thinking about droping in a d16z6 in, and just wondered what would be the problems that I might have? I know that they should bolt straight up, but how hard would the vtec wireing be? I also know that I should get the tranny, axels, and hubs to go along with it. Any ideas or suggestions.

And finaly how hard would it be to get about 220- 230 whp out of that engine? ( And yes I know that if you have a deep pocket that almost anything is possable )

Problems?

Not too many, really...

The engine bolts right in. You want to get an 89-91 Si transmission, since your chassis requires a cable transmission. Don't get the D16Z6's transmission, since it's hydraulic and would need to be converted to work in your CRX.

VTEC is a 4 wire affair. Since your CRX is an HF, it's already wired for 4 injectors, so VTEC should be all you need to add. Run all your stock sensors and you should be ok with an OBD1 engine.

Your hubs will have to be swapped for DX or Si units because the spline count is different than the Si transmission. You could hybrid your axles to work, but the HF units are pretty thin and weak. Switch hubs.

Getting 220-230whp is just a matter of bolting on a turbo kit and tuning it well. We've had a few members in the past all running 200-220whp with bolt-on turbo setups.

If you decide to drop the Z6 in and decide to go for a Mini-Me setup, drop me a line.
I have a couple D16Y8 heads for sale. NiMDa@phreaker.net

You should be able to get a complete swap Z6 for around $500 pretty easily.
Good luck.

If he does a Z6 swap he doesn't need to do a mini-me, he would already have a sohc vtec head. He could upgrade to a Y8 head if he wants a better flowing head, however.

The Z6 head flows better than the Y8.
