Hi,
I decided to tackle the half axles on my 94 civic w/o ABS and I may be really stumped. I drained the auto trans fluid and replaced both halves - buttoned up everything again and it seems as though the transmission does not catch the axles. I know I only put 1 quart of trans oil in as I wanted to be sure everything seemed to be OK before filling with another quart or two. A couple of questions as I'm new to CIvics: 1) With the wheels off the ground should I be able to spin the wheels in either direction in all grars including park? 2) Would another quart and a half make a difference in the operation of the trans in that the half shafts will catch? 3) Any ideas? THANKS issed:" class="inlineimg" /> |

Thanks - I did see this well written article however this really does not help me to understand why the axles do not spin when the car is in gear. I have to hope it is trans fluid but could that be the answer?
Thanks again |

Wheels should only spin freely in neutral.

sUCCESS - THAT WAS IT - ONE OF THE AXLES POPPED OUT OF THE TRANS. AS I DRIVE THE CAR NOW THE USUAL CLICKING SOUND IS GONE ESPECIALLY WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL HARD HOWEVER I SEEM TO NOTICE A SLIGHT VIBRATION WHILE MOVING. THE OLD - ORIGINAL HALF SHAFT ON THE DRIVER SIDE HAD A RUBBER RING ON IT WHICH I ASSUME MUST BE SOME KIND OF DAMPER HOWEVER THE REMAN AXLES (ALL OF THEM) DID NOT HAVE THIS. THE STORE TOLD ME THAT THE AXLES ARE REMAN BALANCED AND DO NOT NEED THE RUBBER RING. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
THANKS AGAIN AND MERRY CHRISTMAS |
