It gets old seeing the same BASIC questions asked over and over when they have been covered as many times over. SO then there is no point to having the Noob question section then or even a search if nobody is willing to do a little work themselves. That is what that section is for.
So ,If you buy a 6th gen and plan on boosting, swap the motor. The d16y7 is not really worth it. If your gonna swap, try: b18b(94-01 Integra "Ls" motor) or b18c1 ( 94-01 Integra Gsr Motor) Both of those motors, esp boosted, will haul a 6th gen coupe around. |

hey man thanks. how about that.
by the way when i said available options..i was tihnking more along the lines of do they offer a vtec or dohc vtec in that model...not what you guys think i should swap to. but now that ive learned they only offer the d16y7...it was nice of you to tell me what good swaps would be. on that note: WTB 5th gen EX coupe.

[/quote] Ok so again,if you read that first link i posted or searched thru the noob section, you would see that they do offer a 6th gen(96-00) civic w/ a DOHC Vtec and SOHC vtec. So i will post that link again! Motor specs, codes and what they can be found in... http://forums.civicland.com/index.php?showtopic=4101 The SOHC vtec,d16y8, can be found in 96-00 Civic Ex's. the DOHC vtec,b16a2 can be found in the 99-00 Civic Si. On a side note,FYI, the 92-95 Civic Ex or Si(SI only availiable in hatch form, share the same motor) has a d16z6,which is SOHC vtec. |

DX's are good for a couple of reasons.. 1 being.. saving gas, and two less components usually than the EX, and Si models.. Therefore having a lighter car.. no sunroof, sometimes no AC and yadayadayada.

D16Y7 can go as far as you like, just depends how much imagination and money you have. Ds are lighter, have the advantage of cheap parts, cheap to repair, lots of options (most d-parts interchangable), easy to boost (esp. ghetto style with HF mani) amongst other things. Its a nice engine to build up over time if you dont have $$$ to do a B-swap.
You will most likely need to go with a turbo though, or if N/A you will probably want to do a SOHC VTEC head swap (D16Z6 or Y8), or delta cam and high comp setup for 150bhp. A cammed Z6 with basic mods has beaten a stock B16A on the dyno. If you need more info see www.d-series.org and www.turbod16.com If you want a straight swap and immediate extra power for $$$ go for a B. IMO ![]() |

If budget is a concern and it usually is, I would recommend a d16y8 intake manifold swap or a full d16y8 head swap (mini-me). Another big upgrade to do to your car is an ex transmission. The gearing is much better for acceleration. Of course a swap is the best bet, but not everyone can justify a motor worth as much as their car, so those would be what I would recommend to you if you want to keep n/a if not boost is always good.
