cams control your valves which inturn controls a lot of stuff.. compression in some aspects.. fuel intake air intake exhaust disapation.


mainly you have one cam to operate intake function and one to operate the exhuast functions in a dohc .. single over head you have one cam doing all of that.

The main reason to use double overhead cams is to allow for more intake and exhaust valves. More valves means that intake and exhaust gases can flow more freely because there are more openings for them to flow through. This increases the power of the engine.
