the rear quarterpanel extends from the back of the car by the taillights to all the way up around the doors and ends by the front fender. furthermore, it's actually a part of the unibody... the only way to get it off is to undo the spot welds on half the car. when you buy replacement quarter panels, they sell you a roughly 12"x12" section of metal that approximates the shape of the quarterpanel around the rust-prone areas... you then have to cut out a matching shape and weld in the whole thing. it's not like front fenders that you can take off willy-nilly. edit: here's what an EF hatch replacement panel looks like. it should give you an idea of how much of the original car you'd have to cut out in order to weld this piece in: ![]()

I'll probably have the guy weld on the pieces of scrap metal instead of buying the quarter panels. Having to weld on a much bigger piece seems like a bitch to do, plus more expensive probably. I never thought about those rubber moldings causing the rust. It makes sense. Thanks.

Personally i think id just buy it , alot less hassle if ur in experienced andalso from what the situation appears to be. dunno how it is in the u.s but prob get a body shop to paint it 4 u unless ur upto it...another option would just be to try to look around in a salvage yard which the chances of finding something not rusty is thin.If you do any of the options though consider looking further into paint prices.

The size of the rust on both sides is about the size of a CD. Won't it be a bigger hassle to cut and weld on the quarter panels rather then just cutting out the rust and welding on a piece of scrap metal to cover the area?

They need big signs on all civics(and other hondas) that say (RIP THE FUCKING RUBBER PIECE OUT FROM UNDER FENDER WELL!) First thing I did when I got mine! Saw them the second I saw the huge dent on my driver side, lol. I've seen rust not only where the fender meets the bumper, but on the opposite side of the fender well and at the bottom. If you just replace the presently effected area, you may have the guy come back with bubbles around there. If you replace the whole thing, it's like a clean slate... almost

post up some pics of the affected area, size of a cd sounds bigger then i aniticipated. If it looks that big from the outside a new 1/4 may be nessesary , there might be more on the inside of the panel, which would require the removal of signifigantly more metal than what you see on the outside, I''d pull out the rear interior plastics and get a good look from behind, it's easy should only take you a few minutes to do, while you got them out wash the shit out of them and armor all them thats what i do about once a year when i do my big interior detail

I'll have to post some pictures. Some girl dropped my camera in a toilet at a party so I'll have to take some pictures with a regular camera and get them developed to a cd. That's until I get another digital one.
