The CX I'm working on now has rust on both quarter panels. For those of you that had rust, what did you do to fix it? I'm not sure if i want to take it to the body shop to let them fix the whole thing, or should I get both quarter panels? What do you think?

The rust completely eats through the panel. The guy that had looked at it for me said that he would have to weld a new piece of metal than mold it. He estimated $300.00, if I by the supplies.
I saw a set of quarter panels for $80.00, but they'll have to be prepared and painted. What route should I take?

Rust is like cancer, cut it out before it speards. Don't do cheap sandin bondo / fiberglass ect ect. Just cut it out weld in some sheet metal and work from there

well the new quarter panels will need to be welded in as well, so if you can get away with a $10 piece of scrap metal instead of $80 quarter panels, then go for it.

i have the exact same problem on my hatch, i found a guy to do the work, remove all rusted metal and weld in new, no bondo and prime the area for $300. Take it from me, i used to work at a body shop don't just sand and prime, 6 months from now your new paint will be bubbling and you'll be shit out of luck. As far as buying 1/4 panels forget it you don't need them, the shop should be able to use some scrap metal to do it, don't waste your money

If there was other damage to the panels I would say get the new 1/4's but if it is only the typical rust we all see on these hondas just remove all the metal affected by the rust, which shouldn't be that much metal, shape a piece of scrap and weld it in. Also if these panels he wants to buy are used they may need to have work done on them, small dents ect...bottom line if it's just a little rust it's easier that way.

also if you still have the rubber moldings in your rear wheel wells pull them out because that is what causes that rust, it traps the water in there.
