1. there is no such thing as a B16A1. it's a B16A SiR gen 1. JDM motors don't have numbers on the end.
They do have numbers.

In europe we have the JDM CRX Vtec (90/91) with the B16a1 it's 150 hp
Also the the Civic EE9 had the B16a1

So would you run a motor that was 15 years old? Sure it might have been swapped out at a certain mileage range, but how many other people between then and now would have owned it/put mileage on it? A CRVTEC with stock pistons can make ok power, especially on boost/nitrous. How is it a waste? Anyone who wants to make power all motor is going to have to go high compression, no matter what motor they have. And the B16 does not use type r valvesprings stock...if that's what you were implying. If you were simply talking about replacing them, it's just as easy to find aftermarket springs/retainers for the ls/b20 head...better off going aftermarket anyways.

my motor's from 91 and i run 13s. seems ok to me.

just had to say that.

Congratulations? I never said they wouldn't go fast (light car helps a lot), but they are definitely older and not as in good of shape. Seriously, would you rather have an older motor or a newer one? It's not rocket science. Not to mention the fact that if he bought a first gen B16, he'd have to switch out the distributor and ecu that came with the swap. And it still wouldn't be legal.

if it's from europe, it's not JDM. it's EDM.
