So the guy I bought my Civic from was an ass and painted the interior panels, including the dashboard with some silver paint. I haven't driven the car since I bought it a couple months ago, but I've been slowlu cleaning it up.

I read about someone using break fluid to get the paint off. I'm not sure if it was on here or HT. I'de like to get it off the dashboard and the door panels, considering I threw all the other panels out...

Anyone have any suggestions?

break fluid? im assuming that in order for something to take paint off it needs to be corosive and i dont think brake fluid is corosive atleast i dont imagine that being a good thing..would make sense.

why not just use paint thinner? ive used nail polish remover also.

I actually asked some people about paint thinner, and I was told that it would take off the paint, but it would also decolor the original plastic color (black). So it will end up looking grayish in some parts...

ok so yea, dont use brake fluid and dont use paint thinner. brake fluid will take the paint off of anything, u really need to watch out with that stuff. and as for paint thinner, its a solvent that is too strong for the interior of a car.

heres what i would do, find a can of that interior spray paint, get the contact info for the company. call the company and say that you would like to know what u can use that will properly remove the paint without destroying your interior at the same time.

again brake fluid, paint thinner, any solvent=not a good idea, it will own your interior.

The thing is that I don't know what paint the guy used to paint the interior. In some parts it even looked as if it was painted with a brush, so I ended throwing out most of the interior panels in the rear.

ok wow, this guy did a number on ur shit. im gonna check some stuff out at work today, i work at Lowes in the paint dept. so i know a lot about paint. im think that there is a solvent that you make be able to use cuz its got a conditioner in it along with the solvent, so ill check it out. still i would be hesitant on an interior.

you have to take into account if that guy sanded the pieces before he painted them. if he did you will have to get new pieces or paint the peices again.

I bought the car from the south side of Chicago , which is the ghetto here. I'll have to post some pictures sometime, but the car needs much work still. I'm sure the guy didn't sand down the pieces before he painted them. The paint is chipping away in some parts, specially on the door panels. The dash is horrible though! He painted over the climate control so you can't even see the labels on the buttons. There is paint on the inside of the windshieldand also some on the gauge cluster, which shows how ghetto it was painted.

I was thinking of filling up a spray bottle with brake fluid and doing one piece at a time. I want to know what you guys suggest though.
