CV Joints

Hi, On a 1994 VTI hatch, can anyone please clarify whether the 'outboard' cv joints separate from the drive shaft. All manuals I've read imply that they do not, that only the inner joints dimantle.
Which would suggest the outer joint & driveshaft come as one part.
Anyone give me their experienced reply?
