Default Exhaust smell from vents. Help ...I'm dying!

Honestly, I can't drive the car. It is a 94 Honda Civic CX and when the heater is on outside air and the car is idling (at a light or warming up), the smell of exhaust is overwhelming. If the car is moving, it clears up pretty quick. It has been a problem since I did the head gasket. I seem to remember someone posting a reply to a similar problem which referred to a small hose on the engine that may have come off. I can't pull anything up on search. Does anyone know what I am talking about? By the way - I put on a new exhaust this week and I still have the problem.
Thanks, Marty
