Hey....just wondering if anyone had any ideas or has run across this problem before. The driver's window in my girlfriend's '97 Civic is acting up. One minute it works fine, the next it gets jammed up (and even crooked). When the window is like half way down, there's a lot of play and movement, as compared to the passenger window.

I had asked this guy at www.about.com, and he answered that there's a technical service bulletin (TSB) about this issue, and he even posted a possible fix. Here's that post.. Her car is the year where it looks like we have to replace the run channels (which I thought were what ran up the front and back of the door for the window to "run" in. I just called Honda, and the guy said that the run channel is what goes along the top of the door....and what I'm looking for is the "sash".

Phew, anyone had this problem before?

we talked about this on the "old" forum. Use a silicone based lube in a spray can and douce the tracks down. Roll it up and down a few times and should be good as new!!

wow, sorry I didn't reply.....forgot to check back at the board.

The window messed up again, and she finally just took it to the dealer. They said they've heard of the problem before, and they'll check it out. They'll most likely replace the regulator and the run channel (the rubber track). It's not as simple as lubing it, though, because I think it's gone too far. The dealer said sometime if it starts to stick, it can screw up the channel, and in turn, mess up the regulator. So they're going to double check the other window, too, and lube that one just in case. What a pita.

had so many problems with this i bent the runner. to fix it i replced the regulator ($45, 45mins-hour) and i braced the runner with a 14ga steel strip to prevent the runner from twisting. that was 2 years ago, havent hada problem since.

My '97 Civic had this problem as well.
It was constantly coming off track and would get all jammed up.
I can't remember how much it was to fix but my body shop said it was a common problem and knew how to fix it.
I haven't had a problem since and that was about a year ago.

i have a 97 tooo!! letts see. passenger side window was a bitch when i frst got the car.. same thing. got stuck, turned sideways. i took the door pannel off, straitened the window out with my hands. then i put vasaline in the grooves on both sides. worked it up and down a few times. i did this last winter, and i thought maybe the vasoline would freeze or something.. its never happened since though. took about a half hour, but didnt cost me shit! good luck.

I have manual windows and they stick like a bitch. To roll them down, you have to go about half way, then up a few inches, then down again, and sometimes one more time. Once it even fell out of the metal track. I had to remove the door panel and unbolt the track to re-fit it back on the window. The passenger side is just as bad as the drivers side.
So if you guys think you are having some window motor troubles, just keep in mind that mine has manual windows and I have the same problem!
