Hello group. I just bought a 1987 sedan, d15a2 motor, auto. The car has only 34,000 original miles, from the original owner, very little rust, faded white paint. The problem i am having is there is an oil leak underneath. You can smell smoke when stopping at a stop sign. It is dripping oil slightly on the exhaust downpipe. The pipe looks slightly oil soaked as if the leak has been there maybe for a while. Valve cover gasket and dist don't seems to be leaking. I put the car up on the ramps and jackstands today and can see the oil pan is rusted through. The question i have is can i change this pan without removing the downpipe? I can almost bet the bolts are very rusted and i dont want to snap any off. Anywhere to purchase an oil pan online? moroso want 300-400, i dont really need a racing pan, stock is fine. How much would the dealer want to do this job? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

WHoa!!! a 3rd gen civic,carburated even!
I would say if you re not totally sure and confident that you can do it,take it to someone who you trust. The dealer is gonna take you to the bank,so i would try a private mechanic.I would guess for an oil pan swap,$200 maybe. |
