Hey people, I liked the responses I got last time from this community so I think I'll try my hand here again for this issue I am having.
I want good steering control out of my civic. I mean killer control so I can feel in control (although I was tought to think otherwise in drivers ED). You seen that new voltswagon commercial where the guy is test driving a VW w/ a sales person and he can accelerate through corners and remain in complete control? I want that! so I can atleast use my punny engine's power efficently. So i am wondering wtf should I do? New shocks? Install Strut Bars? Install Sway bars? The later sounds like the logical answer but I am having enough problems locating them for a reasonable price that I am rethinking what is it I really need. I am not sure what shocks I have, but the idea presented to me based on their blue color is that they may be tokicos, but definately aftermarket because they're blue. What do you guys suggest I do? I mean I suspect my shady looking shocks but they may be fine because the car doesn't bounce accessively, that common tell-tale sign of bad shocks. |

Well First off if you want to have complete peace of mind, get new shocks, I suggest Tokico Illuminas, with Tien S-tech springs. OR if you got the dough get the full system coilovers. Either way do not drop the car more than 1.25" all around.
Other than that I would upgrade to suspension techniques bushings with Neuspeed sway bars both front and back then I would go and find a quality name brand company and get the upper and lower front and rear tie bars. Last but not least get a front and rear camber kit and make sure that your wheels are no bigger than 16" if you really want some cornering ability i suggest 15" and some sticky rubber, Yokohama AVS ES300 does the job well on the street and on the track. I may be off with a few things here and there, but I think i'm pretty on point with most of what I just said (sorry nyquill is kicking in). On top of all, remember that you are driving a sedan, its meant to carry groceries and loved ones, not zip around a track. You will get SOME body roll regardless of what you do, I guess its hit or miss, you just gotta keep fine tuning until you have perfect balance.

I should just shut up, I can't afford any of this stuff. $130 for just one shock? thats like one check! Anything for like $50 per shock (w/ spring)? Thats more reasonable, it's bad enough I have to go ahead and get money to have the things installed too!
I'd like a complete kit that has shocks, springs & sway bars, saves money and is easier to deal with. |

Does anyone here have idea if a bad shock can cause the CV boot closest to the wheel to tear/rip at all or in anyway? I recently replaced the entire driver side axle thanks to this and I want to atleast know that the shocks I not to blame so I can figure out why it happend to prevent it from happening again. |

You don't need to go over board either, If you don't plan on auto cross then you don't really need to buy adgjustable shocks, you can buy a set of KYB GR-2 shocks for $200 and a set of Eibach pro-line or sports line spring fro another $200. So a total of $400 and you will have a major increase in performance over what you have now.
