thats good for a turbo. i mean u can run higher compression on boost, but u do risk detonation more that if u had a lower compression ratio.

Higher compression ratios will make more power, but as said above be more prone to detonation. That being said, if you run a lower boost level on a higher compression ratio, the chances are you will make more power, because you will have higher effective compression, incorporating boost and compression ratio. Also, higher compression will help spool the turbo faster. But, you need to have someone tune the car that knows what they are doing so you don't detonate and ruin your motor. The GSR head flows a little bit better than the b16 head, and has smaller combustion chambers so it will yield a higher compression ratio. |

so with that being said is the compression safe to run 8-10 psi of boost with that block and head? i will stick with my b16 head on my b18 block

vtec + boost is extremely powerful, A gsr head will give you more compression and it has a little bit better ports than a b16 head. I would rather use a b16 head...but hey all i had was a gsr, so i had it ported and some bowl work done, and brought the compression down a little...then used flat top pistons and flat faced valves, so i think i kinda defeated the purpose. Use the vtec head whether you wanna go turbo or not. How much boost do you plan on running, and personally i wouldnt plan on using those eagle rods...not a very good choice. A way you can get a little more revability out of the motor would be to put a gsr or type r crank in it... you will lose a little displacement(which means you lose a tiny tiny bit of torque) but your rod stroke ration will greatly improve. If your gunna go boost, build it right the first time...it sucks to have to go through an engine build 3 or 4 times till you get it right. And building a turbo motor is really easy. Jsut like putting to gether any other motor...the only difference will be the ring gaps.

The R/S ratio won't improve that much...1.58:1 vs. 1.54:1. What's the problem with Eagle rods? They make quality parts for decent prices.

if youve seen what i have from eagle....you wouldnt use them either....ive installed at least 2 sets that have stretched. you dont seem what that .04 in r/s really means...it goes a long way in these motors, especially for revability. dont think just because its a small number, it doesnt matter. you know...b16's have almost the perfect r/s ratio.

I know about that, and I know what a difference in R/S ratio means in terms of revvability. However, I have seen plenty of 1.54:1 ratios go to 10k rpm. .04 of a difference is not that much, especially when you compare the ITR/GSR to the B16. As for the Eagle rods, I've known plenty of people to use them without problems. But with every part and every manufacturer, there are a few bad apples. |
