I got a 1998 Civic EX, 4 dr. It has a d16 single overhead cam vtec engine which i beefed up real good. But I still want more. Should I continue working on it or go for a swap? I was thinking a b16 type R or a b20/b16 combonation. Any sugestions?

What do you really have done to it to "beef it up real good?" You can get a D16Y8 to put more power down to the ground all motor than a GSR puts out to the crank in stock forum if you use the right parts and tune it well. I wouldn't consider intake/header/exhaust to be "beefed up" if that's all you have.

B series motors are a better starting ground, but I've seen some nasty single cams in the past.

I would swap it...if you get a b16b(which is the civic type r) Youll be lucky, and its expensive. A b16b is an identical block to a GSR. gsr has longer stroke, same deck height, same bore. and you can do the same things to them and it will be considerably less than finding a b16b. Now agreed you can get a d16 to put out more hp than a STOCK gsr you will have more room to improve and make even more hp than you can think of with a d series, even all motor. the b series motor is better designed and you can tune them more efficiently(exp. cam timing) than a d series. (not putting down d series here..just explaining that the platform is easier to work with.)

Yes, the B is definitely a better starting point, but if he's not looking for too much more and still has things he can do to the D, it's a good route to follow also. I would NOT recommend getting a B16B unless you just really have to have the bling factor and want to rev up to 11k to make the same power you could have at 9k with the GSR. Go with a B16A if you're going for the B16, and go for one of the B18 engines if you really want to build up.

upgrade your intake manifold, fuel rail- Not much extra power..From there its all a matter of dough with turbo and such.. you can start shaving some weight off your car with CF hoods, trunks, strip rear interior.

If you really want to be quick though, you should put all this money in hatch. More bang for your buck in the longhaul.

How high did you take your compression? The OBX header is probably holding you back too- get something with real engineering behind it. What did you use to tune?
