I have 150,000 miles on my Civic it is my commuter car, I would like the most performance I can get out of it without sacrificing the mpg. What part (exhaust, air filter, etc...) can you guys recommend and what brands?

Get the AEM short ram intake. It is alot cheaper than the cold air system and you will not have to worry about sucking water into your engine going through puddles(hydrolock). It will boost your horsepower and keep your engine cooler. It is about $90 online. You could also do a full cat back exhaust to add more power(approximately 10-12 horses). A good system will run you about $400-500 however. They will save gas as well as adding power. I have an AEM DC Sports on mine and it has very good sound with added power. I don't like how they welded the tip together however. But that is mainly cosmetic. A much more popular cat back system is Magnaflow. Approximately $450 online. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Please, next time, before you ask this take a look in the tech faq section. For example:
How To Produce More Power What Intake? What Exhaust? Oh, and finally: To Save Gas

So he can't post a question without first looking through faq's? That is ridiculous. We are here to freely exchange ideas, information and questions. That is what makes online forums fun. We are not here to scold people. It is not a good way to keep people coming back to the site. He just wanted some tips for his car and is free to ask like everyone else. You as a senior member should know better than that.

Well, First of all I wasn't scolding... and second of all, it does help to look through the faq's. This is a very generic and broad question, because there are a lot of possibilities. Heck, he could even boost it and still get better gas mileage while not in boost. My point is that if he would have looked at the faq's, then he would have been able to narrow down his question some. And as for the intake, a K&N filter on a stick will work as good as the aem short ram, for 80 bucks less. And an exhaust on a stock civic engine will not free up 10-12 horses.

Thanks guys, no offense taken. I am however very ignorant about cars and yes it was a general question but general is all I know, the FAQ's did help a little but no specific's. I'm not trying to race my car or compete with anyone I just have to travel quite a distance and I wan't to maximize my gas mileage, plus coming off the on ramp I need to accelerate quickly to get by semi's. Both of you have been very helpful, by the way my car is an automatic and I would prefer an exhaust that was too annoyingly noisy. Thanks again.

Well then here are a few tips:
The quietest aftermarket exhaust is the RS*R exmag. I've heard it's quieter than stock. I believe the most popular quiet(er) aftermarket exhaust is the apexi world sport series. The Greddy sp2 is also a popular quiet exhaust. Is your car a two door or four door? If it's a four door, most companies don't make exhausts labeled for the four door, but any two door exhaust will fit up fine. Other than that, just make sure your car is completely tuned up (new spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor, plug wires, etc.) and the timing is adjusted correctly and you should be fine. I own a 98 civic ex 4dr and just recently drove it down to Orlando and back for spring break. I got anywhere between 30 and 40 mpg. The best thing you can do to save gas is to control your foot lol. Good luck.

i just got an apex'i WSII exhaust system. It gives a decent performance gain, better gas and is really really quiet. It is a little better sounding than stock but is not that noticable and i love it.
