Hey, I was just wondering, is it really necessary to but the valve springs and retainers for a single cam upgrade. It's a street cam made for lightly modded engines and says it produces about 25 hp for my d16y8. Think I'd be able to go without? Or should I spend another 300 for the springs and retainers. I can buy the springs and retainers separately, so buying one or the other is an option too. Thanks

If you are keeping your stock redline, you should be fine without springs and retainers. Keep in mind a solution for adjusting fuel due to a more aggressive cam profile, though.

I have heard good things about the ZEX/Crane cam and the Skunk2 is a good choice as well

i'll look into the zex and crane cams too. I was actually planning on buying a skunk 2 cam. What should i do about the fuel adjustments?

If you indent on getting cams at all you will have to get the motor re-tuned. All the fuel adjustments are made through the ECM.
