What would eb a better location for an amp?
Under the driver's deat or inside the trunk? Am I right in thinking the amp is bound to get hotter under the drivers seat? thanks in advance..... |

Well what kinda of amp is it? What are you going to be running with it? Subs or highs?
I would say it's more a problem of fitting it under the seat then if it will over heat. But I've had my amp overheat in the trunk on a hot day. ![]() |

If it fits under the seat, it wouldn't be bad for space savings. On most cars, most amps are tough to fit under the seats, though. If you can get it to fit under there, you will want at least an inch above it for decent circulation.

Its on my wifes car it is a 400 watt jensen amp and there's definetly not more than 1/4 inch of space between the amp and the bottom of the seat, she got it to drive 2 12 inch subs...So should I get it reinstalled?
Also I plan on installing my kenwood kac 7201 into my hatch soon, so what would be a good set of subs to run with the stock radio and the rest of the stock speaker set up? |

I mounted my amp along the wall of the trunk, and I think most other people do too. It saves space, and is a convienent reach to the subs. I would think that it would get hotter under the seat since the sun hits inside the car, even with tint.

I mounted my Rockford 800a4 under my passenger seat in the teg. I beat the bottom of the seat with a rubber mallet, which pushed up the sheet metal that dips down. Fits like a charm.

Like others have stated if you can fit it under the seat go for it. It would be a better choice being that the RCA (patch cables) don't have to run as far.

i would mount it on the back of my rear seat so if just u and your wife go cruzin' u can flip the rear seat down and everyone can see it. I mounted mine that way in my 92 LX and i love it.

IF (notice its capitalized.. so thats a BIG if) im not mistaken... when running subs... isnt it better to run as short as possible speaker wire from the amp to the speakers? IF (again with the BIG if) that is the case... then deff. put it in the trunk.
Oh... and BTW... even if you do put it under the seat.... it'll be a tight fit. So i wouldnt recommend it if you adjust it alot. I cant imagine the difficulty you'd have trying to see/adjust any settings under a cramped seat. |

good point kyle_g
But my concern would also be with our kids, we have a 4 nd a 6 yr old and while they are not allowed to eat/or drink on either car, but my wife, being a mom allows them to do this so I'm affraid they would spill something on it or the fact that my wifes amp has a "pwetty bule light" and they may mess with it...hell I was a kid once I'd mess with it.. |
