heres my problem.... i just got a new (well used from my bro) pioneer cd player to replace my old jvc deck. i tried hooking up all of the wiring from my old deck to the new one and i THINK i may have blown a fuse. everytime i turn on the car, the clock is reset to 1:00 and the brightness of it is really low and sometimes just goes off period, and whenever i use my blinker the clock flashes with the blinkers pulses. i think its probably a fuse because i have tested the cd player and it did work earlier today and now that its hooked up it wont do anything. how can i tell which fuse (if that is the prob) is the one that i need to replace?? i tried looking but none were labeled. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks. -Dave.

Sounds to me like the wiring is bad, not a blown fuse. Triple check everything.

Dave - it sounds to me like more of either a bad ground of some sorts or a mis-connected wire.
How'd you wire the harnesses togeather? Direct wire to wire? or did you use a wiring harness spacific to the vehicle?

Sometimes, you can't just use the wires provided . . you've got to use an alternative.
Check your ground . . . I can't stress that enough. It's better to have it grounded to a wire to the chassis or something metal rather than just wire to wire. (if that's your case)

anyway, more info on how you did everything might help . . .

Let me know.

thanks guys for ur help so far. as far as how i have it hooked up, it looks like my bro just kinda hacked the deck out of his car, the wires come right out from the deck and were cut about 6 inches long. i tried splicing all the wires from the deck to the aftermarket harness i already had in the car with my old deck. if i hook up the power wire (yellow i think it was) up to the harness and turn the key on shouldnt that power up the deck regardless of any of the other wires? oya 1 more thing sum1 said about the ground, its the black wire but the way i have it hooked up its connected to another black wire on the harness that i assumed grounded to the chassis somewhere. should i just ground that wire right from the deck to sumthing metal or is it fine the way it is. once again thanks for all the replies and i hope i can get this sorted out. -Dave

How old of a pioneer deck its it? The older ones didn't use standard colors and orange was constant power. Either way constant power and switched power have to be powered for the deck to work. If the clock won't keep time, it is more than likely a blown fuse under the hood. It is a 7.5 amp fuse and is overlooked more often than I can even think of.

the deck is a 2000 model. so if i read that right the orange wire is the power wire? hmm, maybe i can mess with that a bit.

2000 models should be standard colored wires. If the deck has a yellow wire, wire it color to color. If there is no yellow wire on the deck, then it is the old pioneer wiring colors with a yellow constant power.

BTW, I forgot that Jesse was on the computer last and that he was logged in, so cybergreen's post was actually me.
