My system runs pretty much fine i just have some kinks to work out... heres one of em... When im pumping my system really hard sometimes what i believe is the amp will cut out.. and i hear nothing for just a few seconds and then it will come back on.. it does this over and over alot when im standing at a light.. when it cuts out all i do is rev the motor maybe up to 2k and HOLD IT or so and it will come back on and play fine unless i let go of the gas and let it idle then it will start cutting out a little again... Also my lights dim to the bass slightly too...
Again this is when im bumping really hard and stopped at a light or something.. if i turn it down ill play fine straight thru... Or if im driving no problems what so ever.. Here is the setup i have... 2 12" RF Punch HX2 subs, RF digital cap, and RF 500S punch amp connected to an old ass 35X4 pioneer reciver.. Any ideas? Im assuming when i run the system hard i dont have enough power to back it up or something so its cutting out? ![]()

Ok i have a few ideas for you. First of all, what size power wire are you using? id say you should be using at the very least 8, but probably more like 4 gauge or bigger if you really wanted to get crazy. is the amp 500 watts RMS, or max? it could also be that the amp isnt big enough to push those 12's, especially depending on the box they are in. How is your ground? is it grounded to something clean, sanded down, not some bolt on your taillight or something
? also the ground should not be any longer than like 14" and it should be the same gauge as the power wire. as for the dimming lights, you might want to invest in a cap, or capacitor. 1/2 to 1 farad should do. i hope this helps, and i hope it doesnt insult you if you already knew some of this stuff.

i have a cap already 1 farad i believe
Its ok im brand new to systems.. I got it installed by this proffesional place around here since i was really new to it. I believe the amp is 500 watts peak.. I have the subs in a sealed box..Im not sure what wire they used but i think its also RF and i have no idea what they used as the ground either... maybe i should take it back over there on my day off and see what they say... i think i either need more power or and get my cap checked out to see if its working ok?

that would probably be the best thing to do, is take it in and have them look. another thing is you might have them check the remote wire, the really thin wire, usually blue, it could be shorted out or have a bad connection and could cause the symptoms you describe.

Your amp is going to thermal protection because it is getting too hot on the board. It may be that the gains are too high and distortion is getting it too hot or it may be just the fact that fosgates get real hot after long periods of time. Mainly it depends how often and what not.

It will also do this same type of thing if it is running through too many crossovers. Basically if you are trying to use two seperate low pas crossovers for the same signal there will be periods where the crossover on the amp will overwork itself and cause thermal protection. Most likely though the power wire needs to be bigger gauge or the ground needs to be in a different spot. They could also have hooked up the capacitor in a way that it only stores juice when the system is not on or not in need of the power. I have always put the cap in the main power wire between the amp and battery the ground it with a different wire but in the same location as the amp is grounded, this way it will trickle charge all the time and when you sit at the lights it will still have enough stored all the time to supply.
Sorry for the bible but there are many things still that could be the cause, without having installed or even looked at the install myself I am only giving you ideas of where to look.
