So i have a RF digital one farad cap in my trunk and the numbers on the cap read 14.2 and go up and down frome time to time.. not a problem but what the hell so these numbers mean? Im still learning about systems so i gotta ask dumb question sorry.

Another problem.. i think i blew my RF amp too.. yesterday i was kickin it hard and usually if it gets too hot it will just turn off and come back on after 5 minutes or so... So as i was saying yesterday i was playing hard.. and suddenly the bass got kinda soft.. and then went to actually stop playing... so i figured it would come back on after 5 minutes and it didnt... After pulling over i look under my seat (where the amp is) and i dont see any lights on or anything... and im not sure but i think smelled some kinda electrical burning.. So i goto the trunk and look at the cap and its saying.. .01 which means its not getting any power... So did i blow my amp?

how many amps do you have in total? And whats the total wattage output and the total amperage draw?

btw.. caps are nothing but a crappy "band-aid" for your system.

Kyle, I'm with you on the "band-aid" theory.

There are ways of creating a system with no draw. Remember guys, there's alot more to real stereo systems than you tend to think of . . .

Better batteries, altenators, placement, ect.

Okay I wouldn't say that caps are just Band-Aid they DO help....but they need to be hooked up right and you need to install a cap in line with your amp that pulls the most current. Meaning you have a sub amp and I mids/highs amp it's a good bet you sub amp is the one that needs the cap.

But Sam does have a great point everything needs to understand that stereo have a lot more parts to them then just speakers and amp and there are ways to not have to use a cap...but you need to know what you are doing. Everyone around here that knows a lot about stereo systems didn't learn it all in one day.

Sorry i totally forgot about the thread... i only have one amp for the time being.. 1 RF punch 500s amp that is a piece of shit cause i blew it.. and almost one month later and i havent got it back from RF yet..

I didnt go out and buy the cap it was given to me along with the subs and box i got for 300 bucks... My cap runs in line with my amp i believe.. i only have one sub amp in the car and the cap runs with that... Should i just throw out the cap or what?

Im gonna do some more work on the system ths summer i hope.. i just have some suspension problems i have to deal with first...

BTW that RF punch 500s amp is a piece of fucking shit...

Lesson ive learned...

DONT BE CHEAP WITH UR AMP!

i wouldnt really say Rockford is all that cheap. after all.. there is worse. But my buddy has one.. and its constantly overheating. Either way.. since you got it cheap.. might as well use it for the time being. And since the cap was pretty much given to you.. doenst hurt to use it... i would just never buy one for the sole purpose of using it. Free is free.. right? Honestly though.. i wouldnt have wasted my time sending in the amp though. not really worth it. i paid $200 for a Kenwood.. fucked it up.. and they wanted $150 to fix it. How 'bout no?
