Hey,
I need to put in new front speakers in my 97 coupe. the size that i found i need is a depth of 3 1/8 but im having trouble finding componets that size. how hard would it be to fit ones that were 3 5/8?

Just cut out the rain guard that it limiting your depth. If you take you door panel off you'll see the little dome like thing that holds the speaker in....just cut the back off of that and you shouldn't need to use any MDF spacers or anything.

That is what I do for every install on a Honda. I did have to do MDF spacers on Jesse's hatch, but that was because he has true 6.5" speakers where a Civic takes 6" speakers.

The plastic piece that the speaker is screwed to has four screws holding it to the door. Pull that piece off and you will see that it has a plastic backing. Just use a hacksaw or something to cut the back of it off. Then reinstall.
