you need an XM tuner made for your head unit, which is extra (around $200) and probably $50-$100 to install. yes, the head unit is XM ready but that doesn't mean XM satellite radio is already installed. The XM service is $9/month. You can either go to the store you bought the head unit to get the tuner or look on Ebay, which you could probably find a cheaper one.

ok, thanks. I was just getting happy about oompahlumpa's reply, but that is what I expected.

I found a couple good deals on ebay, but if anyone has specific brands/models which they know to be good, that would be appreciated.

thanks again.

Only a few of the head units on the market right now have satellite tuners built in... most are just "XM ready" or "Sirius ready".

hmm, i thought the universal xm tuner was like $50 w/ antenna for pioneer head units. for future reference xm is 9.99/month and 9.99 to activate online.

If an extra .99 showed up on my bill I would be upset. Not because I'm hard up for a buck but because I was told one thing and billed another.

I've seen price ranges from $50 to $300.

My old lady had the 4500 for a little while, nice deck for cheap but like all Pioneers I've had eventually the face plate stopped working.
