I just got a BRAND NEW used 96 civic ex. The sound sucks and the cd drive eats the cd but doesn't play it. It's all stock sound and I want to upgrade. I can probably squeeze 300$ out of my parents for a new everything. I'm looking for quality not quantity. After all, It's a sound system not a noise system. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

With an alpine head unit, there goes your $300.
Pioneer has so far been my favourite (taking the price into consideration of course) If you want mp3 you can get the . I've had that one and the features are great, and price is good. Pick it up at ebay for about $110.00 Component speakers, you could get the same pioneer 6.5 or/and 6X9. they are quite awesome for the price. Blaupunkt is another brand that has some ok quality without paying too much for the name.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5735629126&rd=1 first link I found. But I have heard good reviews of Pioneer headunits also. Either one would be fine, but being as I am absolutly in love with Alpine products, I would choose them first. I also have my cars front and rear speakers from Blaupunkt. I payed $100 brand new to get all 4 speakers, so I gave it a shot. As for quality and all that stuff, yeah, they are $25 dollar speakers, but I have had them for years and they haven't shitted on me yet. Personally I would pay 50 bucks extra to get another pair of front and rears if I was on your limited budget, but that's only because I know how they sound and I would want to compare them to other cheap speakers, meaning their might be better cheapies out there.

Can you install a head unit your self? if not, i would buy from a place that will install for free. I know best buy had a special like that sometimes. Anyways you have to consider that when buying audio stuff, cause 200$head unit + 100$install = 300$. BTW i am also a fan of Pioneer. I hope you enjoy your brand new 96EX

if you can squeeze 300 bucks from you rents i got a plan for ya. head over to walmart and pick up pioneers head unit that costs about 160 bucks. nothin special but sounds good. then pick up the speakers that u need. they sell 220 pioneer speakers that are pretty good. again nothing special. all in all that will run u about 260to280 plus tax. now go and get some new wiring. i used 16 gauge. i rewired everythin and it sounded nice.only thing you need now is the harness and your set!!
wat i did in my old 91 civic dx hatch was a 200 dollar kenwood head unit with 160 watt aplines in the front, they sucked ass, and 220 watt 6 by 9's in speaker boxed in the trunk cuz there was no where to mount em and i wasnt into fabin them in anywhere. then i rewired everything and it sounded good. |
