so i need some assistance in selecting a subwoofer setup for my newly acquired 2002 LX sedan. i have an alpine 9827 hu, cdt components in the front doors, and nothing else.
i am somewhat new to "advanced" car audio but i learn quick. i have read up a lot on this stuff lately too. my old civic, a 97 dx had much bigger apertures in the rear deck so the 6x9 JBL 3ways i had sounded pretty ok (for me). anyway the 02 has 6.5inch holes so not much bass will come of that i guess. i want to have decent bass, not like shattering my neighbors' skulls etc. but enough so i can enjoy the full range of my music. i also like the larger trunk size on the 02 lx and i would like to not have the sub take up TOO much space. budgetwise - i'd like to spend like $150 to 200 total on sub and amp and enclosure. someone told me this was realistic if i looked on ebay for long enough. i'm definitely not carpentry-oriented enough to build my own box. anyway so that's my situation, please let me know if you have any advice for me. btw - are these smaller amp systems (bazooka, etc) any good? it doesn't look it but maybe you know something i dont... |

Yes, you can do it for $200, but it's going to be really tight. I won't recommend any brands to you because there's just so much out there in that price range... but I would recommend just reading up on as many local (to you) forums as you can to see what audio equipment people near you are dumping, then read reviews about those specific products on the 'net before contacting the seller to buy anything.
I put together the entire system in my truck for under $400, and that was including the Alpine head unit, one pair of decent 6.75" JBL door speakers, a mediocre 12" Sony sub in a sealed box, and a mediocre Profile amplifier to run all 3 speakers. Everything was bought new except for the sub and box. Just the sub, box and amp cost me right around $155 shipped altogether. It's not the best, but it sounds decent enough to get me by. My definition of "decent" would be the $5000 system in my Civic, so what I have in the truck could easily be more than enough for you depending on what your tastes are. Good luck. |
