First off, my setup includes a Kenwood KDC indash deck, Kenwood KDC 6 cd changer, SPL Series II 400w amp and an Audiobahn 10" DVC 600w sub.
I usually cruise around with my system at about volume level 20, which with how it's set up with bass/mids/highs gives a good mixture between the three. I do notice that on very bass-heavy songs though, if the volume is at 19-20 either the amp or the sub will spontaniously cut out, like it can't handle the power load. If I turn it down a few notches it'll come right back on. Since I can't check it while I'm driving, I'm making the ultimate assumption that it's the amp cutting out. Is there any easy fix to this? If I remember right I have the deck setup as highs - 7, mids - 6, base - 5. Any help is appreciated. |

It does sound like the amp is cutting out, since you say it does it with bass heavy songs. I had a Soundstream Reference 500 and an old Eclipse amp that used to do that. What i did was simply turn the gains down on the amps. Then i would go back to the recieved Eq and fine tune it from there. |

The amp is only 2 years old and it's always done this, I just now got around to thinking about it and asking.

![]() [/b][/quote] After it cuts out, see if the amp is hot, or prity warm. If it is, its usely the amp cutting out, sometimes it will cut out even if its not hot. All my amps have done this after a while, all have been kinda cheap crapy amps. If you like playing your music with bass and taking it on long car trips, invest in a good amp. The JL 500/1 is an amzing amp! Its under rated, its only "500RMS" but its really 700rms. That sucker is so good!!! One time my trunk leaked some water, and it got on the amp, and the amp went out on me. but after a day or so it came back on, it just needed to dry out. They say the only way to kill that amp is, if you drop the power cable on it or something dumb and short it out. Anyway, its a awesome amp for 200$ on ebay.

I wish I could check it, I don't know how hot it's supposed to get, so I won't be able to tell if it's too hot. The problem is I'm usually on the road and don't have any place to pull over to check it.
I'm gonna mess with the gain settings on the amp and see if that takes care of it first. I've never had an amp completely die on me either. Thanks for all the help. |

Would it come back on immediately after turning the volume down if it was getting too hot?

first make sure you have the right ohm load from sub to amp if everything is good just retune the amp turn the gain all the way down the bass boost all the way up and go from there.
