Boss... wow, haven't seen them in ages. Did you find one at a pawn shop? No reputable dealer still carries them. Wait, WalMart might still have 'em. I bet it's really 2000w or more though.

It isn't allways the wiring that causes an amp to blow. sometimes the speaker outputs just go out and cause the amp to go into protection mode. sometimes after a speakers gets so much use it can change the impedance or ohms of the speaker. some of that can be caused by over heating and forcing your amp to work near unstable ohm loads. 4 ohms is the industry standard in automotive sound. but then companies build their amps to perform at 2,1 and even lower ohm loads. this will also but higher strain on them and cause them to fail sometimes quicker then normal. the plus side is the power output offered by the amps able to perform at these lower ohm loads.
there are formulas that need to be followed to properly bridge your amplifier when using more then one subwoofer. I use a single 12" memphis M series with a dual 4 ohm voice coil that allows me to drop it to a 2 ohm load on my memphis 500 watt amp. the amp at 4 ohms only produces 300 watts but at 2 ohms it raises to 500 watts. the sub has an RMS of 300 watts and a peak of 600 watts so on the performance curve 500 watts is actually optimum wattage without over working the sub or the amp. you want to be just above your RMS and just below your peak. you can also get alot deaper sound and performance from a properly ported box, most people don't know this but your box has a ton to do with your sound output. there is a box referred to as a folded horn or a slot port, I recommend this enclosure over any other that can be purchased as a prefab hope this helps. I have managed companies that have professionally installed most any after market part for vehicles so if I can be of any further help just PM me or hit this thread
