If you want to know when you shift your car get t dynoed and you'll know where your power drops off.

I didnt read all of the posts but you motor may "seem" like its making power up to the redline but your "butt-dyno" aint as good as you may think. Stock motors dont make power all the way up to the redline. You may think its still pulling cause of the higher reving of the motor. TQ is totally diving off as you aproach redline in a stock motor. Depending on how you build a motor you can get this to drasticly change but you stated that the motor was stock (internally).

understood, but in my case, if i dont go all the way to redline, then when i shift i drop out of vtec and my 1/4 mile times were a good bit slower.

Dont drop to 2nd...... you can drop to 3rd and still pull on people.... but my questions is why are you doing rolling starts and if you are doing this on the freeway.... more power to you but dont drop to 2nd. And if you think your math is right then it works. But when it breaks its your fault cause your beating your car to death..... just my .02 cents

ok Well here's the short answer on a long debated topic. Yes I can drop my car to second gear as long as I don't breach redline. I talked to several mechanics this week about this topic including a mechanic certified to do work soely on hondas. He said it was fine just be sure to treat my engine well and Always take care of it as far as maintence goes. He said to change my tranny fluid every 3 months and change oil every 2000 miles if I am going to be running it as hard as I am. He said that it should be fine. I have always changed my oil every 1500 miles because I want my engine to be top notch. and I had a turboed car before so I am sort of in the routine. So as far as my experiences and research it's safe to downshift to second.
Oh yeah just a quick note, make sure to upgrade the motormounts with some polyurethane insearts to handle the extra jolt. or the engine WILL hit the firewall. trust me on this one. I speak from experience. ok good luck to all. and Happy racing. lol |

I just see dropping to 2nd is pointless cause your just going to be high up in RPM's that you're going to have to shift anyways. its a wasted. but do what you wish.... and that tech.... I have no words to describe that..... cause any Honda tech I would talk to about that..... would have bitch slapped someone with that question.....
