Ok, i got what I think is short ram intake (just like the CAI but the filter is in the engine bay) what I am thinking about doing is make a hole in the bumper and running a pipe up the right in front of the filter. thus allowing intake from outside of the engine bay, and at higher speeds, the air would be 'rammed' into the filter.
1.) How much would this help? 2.) If I drive like this while raining, would the water going up the pipe and into the filter damage my engine? note, I have never studied ram air yet, so this idea is purely original. thanks for the help.

I think it would make an unsightly hole in your bumper with very little performance gains. I doubt you would get water inside the moter, but hey anything is possible. Especially with a big hole in your bumper.

Not worth it.. definately not worth it. And you wouldn't see any significant gains.. trust me.

thanks then. wont do it. but is there anything you would recommend to get colder air into the intake?
maybe lead that pipe, but without the hole in the bumper. so it would draw the air from outside of the engine bay. just checking a lil bit. or would u guys just leave it like that. note, i cant put the filter down there cuz of the type of roads i drive.

Run some flexible ducting from where a CAI filter would sit in the fender, up to the air filter in the engine bay.

well if you're gonna seal it, you may as well just get a CAI, because in essence you're doing the exact same thing. I just never understand why someone would wnat to try and fabricate something for about 3-5 HP, if that.

At speed the engine bay temps won't be significant, especially if you remove the resonator box. Your "short ram" is fine.

if you wanna get an idea of power gains from putting a hole in your bumper. just take out your headlight. the air would flow right to the filter. i agree with Micah though, prolly wouldnt be anything worth while.
