Right now I have a jdm d15b in my 5th gen 4 door with intake header exhaust si tranny and clutch net cluch. I am going to sell that car cause I have a love for hatches. Well, I am looking at a 6th gen hatch and they come with a y7 if I am correct, if I put a y8 head on that, without doing any other mods how hard would that run? what would the compression be like, and do you guys reccomend something else for a low budget. I mean eventuall I might get a b16a2 or a b18c1 but that will take a while to save for, so for a mod like head and flywheel would that be fairly fast?

no cause then it is heavy as hell, dx hatch 2200 to 2300 pounds, and then the ex hatch weighs like 2700 pounds less weight = faster car, that is plain and simple.

I dont think the compression will rise that much since the Y7 head and Y8 Head combustion chamber design is identical.. Now..Put a Y8 head on a Z6 motor or a d15 and you will see the compression bump nicelly cause 92-95 head combustion chambers are different.

92-95-->Circular combustion chamber
96-00--> Aquared combustion chamber

And by swaping a Y8 head into a Y7 motor he wont achieve the 125factory HP that the EX comes with..

No hatchback in america from the 6th gen. came as an EX hatch.

Just on some JDM market countries it came as a EX-I model which carries basically the SOHC Vtec found on an EX Coupe.

Wrong.. The gearing of the CX tranny will make it slower than an EX. EX tranny 3rd gear is shorter so acceleration on the EX is faster..Unless he swaps the CX tranny for an EX then he'll be

Wow... all these answers and all this incorrect information.

The head and combustion chamber design is NOT the same between the Y7 and Y8. The Y8 combustion chambers are slightly smaller at 32.8cc. Compared to the 38cc head on the Y7, you should gain about 0.9:1 points on your compression. I'm not sure what the stock compression of the Y7 is off the top of my head, but you should be able to get into low 10s for compression with the Y8 head.

The Y8 head on the Y7 engine will give slightly higher compression than the stock Y8... so wired with an ECU that supports VTEC and given some time tuning your engine, you should have slightly more power than the stock Y8. Not much more, but still definitely more.

You could always swap out the pistons for DOHC ZC, P29 or GX units to gain even more compression- those pistons would put you up in 12.5-12.6:1 territory.
