I know that a few of you have done the rear drum-to-disc brake swap, and I wanted to know how this conversion affects the feel of the brake pedal. I know that on older Civics you have to swap the master cylinder also or the pedal feel changes dramatically; but since the 2000 Civic Si uses the same master cylinder and lines as the 2000 Ex (At least the part numbers were the same when I cross referenced it.) it seems like it would be a fairly straightforward swap. If anyone has done this conversion on a newer Civic, I would really appreciate your knowledge on this topic. I am seriously considering this upgrade, but want to know exactly what I am getting myself into.

Thanks for the fast reply. I guess I should have spent more time thinking of a better name, but my first name and middle initial are just so easy to remember. I just wanted to make sure that the pedal didn't go almost all the way to the floor before the brakes started to engage. I may swap the master cylinder someday, but it looks like that could take a couple of days, and I can't lay my car up for more than one day at a time.

I did this on my old 99 EX and was more satisfyed with just putting the big brake conversion on the front. It looks better with disks all the way around but for the time and money involved it was better braking with the big disks out front. This is why the rear clip for the Teg. I have just sits in my shop and not on my car. Just a thought.

I'm more concerned with the overall feel of the brakes. I've driven a Civic Si with the four-wheel discs, and the braking just felt more solid to me; as opposed to the slightly squishy feel you get with rear drums. I've also heard that stainless steel brake lines get rid of some of that soft pedal feeling. I didn't want to go with the big brakes just yet because I only have 15" wheels and don't have the disposable income to get the big brakes and wheels also.

Get a FastBrakes kit. For around $1000 you can have 11 inchers or larger at all 4 corners, stainless lines all around and sweet 4 piston calipers up front- and still fit under your 15 inch wheels.

Why not just get SI or GSR rear disc-setups???Since EX comes with rear drums... I got SI rear disc-setups...and it stops on a dime!

I just wanted to say thanks for all of the advice. I finally got around to doing the rear brake swap. It went pretty smoothly, and the rear discs are a definite improvement. Braking is noticeably more stable.

i kno that a lot of ppl already probly know this but a lot of hondas can swap complete rear brakes such as the 98 ex can swap its whole rear trailing arm and drums for a new trailing arm and discs from a integra, del sol, or si(forget wat years). im not really sure about a 2000 but it might be possible. def switch your rears to discs tho its so much better. also when you change your rears drums to discs you have to change the amount of fluid that is sent to the rear brakes by changing the part that all the hard lines connect to(forget the name but its after the master cylinder)
