is it possible to avoid rubbing or any fender-related problem if i didn't lower the suspension?

And to add on to this thread, just so you understand, lowering the car will increase your chances of rubbing because you will be bringing more of the tire into the fenders' zones. But like smooth said, with a 17" wheel you won't rub either way.[/b]
not entirely true. i have 17's with 40 series tires, and i rub....sometimes, mainly when i turn. but my car is slammed alot. but it is basically true that 17's will be fine.

my question is.....what will happen when i get 18's??

^Oh sure, flush MY credibility!!! :P

Let's just say under "normal" suspension circumstances you'll be fine.

And cynosure, we gotta hook up along with a few others. We're so close to each other. This summer should be fun now that I know so many of us are New Englanders.

thanks for your advice guys, i think i will need to do the lowering
somehow, not to mention saving money for the cost
however, i'm glad to know from you all that i could put the rims w/o lowering the car. i think i'll just begin my search for which model it's gonna be. any suggestion about where i could find good deals for rims+tires package? doughboy suggested wheelmax.com, their price is great but i can hardly see the model i've had in mind. regardless the brand, i would prefer silver, 5 spokes, the spoke thickness is like those of Konig Harpoon but as "plain" as possible (i attach the pic i got from an ebay seller, it's what i'm thinking of until now). Again, thanks a lot.

i'm on the other side of spectrum. i'm a big five star fan. most of my favortie civics have 5 spoke wheels. as a matter of fact, i like those wheels you posted.

here is what your civic will look like. those are 17x7.5 wheels w/ 205/40/17 tires. that's the most 'lifted' looking pic i could find.

Thats because you have a 5th gen not a 6th gen civic. with !8's you'll be cool. in my other civic (94 dx) i used to have 18's and only very small rubbing problems on full lock turns.

One more question, will putting 205/50 (instead of 205/40) help reducing the wheelgaps?

Not much, but you would get a slightly larger footprint during a hard launch. But still not much.

No it will not reduce the wheel gap. It will make it bigger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and remember it will also fuck up your speedo and milage. Do it right the first time or don't do it at all.
