hi all, first of all pardon me for lacking of knowledge in car mods. i'm thinking to get a set of 17" rims (17x7, w/ 40 offset) for my 2000 ex. here's my question: is it possible to avoid rubbing or any fender-related problem if i didn't lower the suspension? what kind of tires (in term of dimension) should i get?
i totally agree that lowering will make the car look much more nice but i'm afraid i can't afford the cost. would anyone please explain what's the purpose of lowering besides the aesthetic consideration? any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advance

OK

1) You can put the 17's on and nothing will rub if your not lowered, Still will not rub with a 2 1/2 drop either

2) if you have 17x7 rims you should get 205/40-17

3) The main reason you would want to lower your car is 90% of the time you will have better handeling, and be able to turn harder faster with less body roll/

4 And just to give you a idea what it looks like. the pic in my sig is my 96 with 17x7 and 205/40-17 with about 1 1/2 to 2 inch drop.

And to add on to this thread, just so you understand, lowering the car will increase your chances of rubbing because you will be bringing more of the tire into the fenders' zones. But like smooth said, with a 17" wheel you won't rub either way.

what crack are you smokin ERIC!!! lowering the car (well doing it the right way) is still going to cost atleast $500 bucks, unless you have the hook up. But if you do let me know because i need a new setup for this spring. If you can get me a set of GR-2's and some GC coilovers for less then $500 shipped to my house let me know.

yeah, the difference between your average set of wheels/tires in 16s and 17s is going to be $100-150. definately not enough money to lower your car.

my thoughts are if you go w/ a 16" or 17" wheel lower the car first. if money is tight buy the components one month at a time.

otherwise you will look like this moron.

my current HX rims and tires total = 400 + 300-500 suspension (high and i have a sweet setup i payed 200 for my adjustables tokico+springs granted i didn't get full setup one peice but this kid isnt' gonna either)

my konig 17 imagens (new) 900 + 350 in tires..

do the math lighter/smaller wheel cheaper and you can lower for the same overall price

well your hx wheels are 14s and you were talking about 16s. also you can't compared used 14" wheels/tires prices vs. brand spanking new 17" wheels/tires prices.

dude doesn't have money.. granted off topic slightly but if he wants to do both with the same price it's possible and IMO look better.. coming from someone who's been on both sides of the fence and though i've had my "used" hx's i prefer them looks and function over heavy ass 17's esp with only a ex stock motor but hey i dont know much
