ok my car has been overheating for the last few dayz. i changed thermostates and flushed my system, i have come too the conclusion it either my fan relay or water pump or both. radiator looks fine. water pump isn't leaking or making any strange noises, but could it still be bad?? and my fan likes too come on when i turn the a/c on so is my relay bad since i have to manually turn the fan on??
one more question don't u have to take the timing belt off to remove the water pump??

I'm in the same mess . . . oil pump!
I had to take the timing belt and the altenator belt off to get to where I needed to be. If your engine is a b series, the water pump is just above the oil pump so it looks like you'll have to do the same. What a pain in the ass. Just make sure that before you take anything apart, be able to find tdc of your cam gears so you can reset later on. They should be marked but I'm not 100 on that one. Good luck! Sam - |

How many miles on the water pump? and on the radiator(stock or no?)? Any thing more than like 90k is pushing it for a water pump.
Definitly take biocac's advice - mark everything before you take it apart. Saves a lot of headaches later.

well what usually happens is that the acidity in the coolant eats away at the fins in the water pump that circulates your coolant, so its more than likely the pump, it isnt that hard to do, just remove the cover mark your timing belt with some paint or something for a reference point on both cams or one and at the crank. Then remove the pump. and then go in reverse order.
