I got a 98 Honda Civic coupe EX, and I want to upgrade my exhaust. I got a 4-2-1 header. What I want to do is change the whole piipe from front to back to a 3 inch pipe, with upgraded or no cat. (in my country i dont have to worry about emissions and noise)
i just wanted some more help with the cat. and the o2 sensor. if i am right, i dont have to worry about the first one? if I disable (disconnect?) it, does it still mess up the engine's performance? do the performance cats that you get from ebay have the same affect on the sensor as taking off the cat? thanks for the help. First off, dont use a 3 inch pipe high presure runs down the middle of your exhaust pipe and low presure goes slower down the sides of the pipe, when you let off the gas the low pressure that is still in the pipe acutally sucks air back up into the combusstion chamber. (not a horrible bad thing but not the best for performance)
this leaves more than normal amounts of carbon build up on the valves. bottom line you just have the output with your little d series to warrant 3 inch pipes.. i have 2 1/2 and i have a bigger motor. your 2nd o2 sensor should make you run any worse if you disconnect it.. you might trip a code though |

Dumm Deeee Deee Dum Dum...
Well, Eric is correct about the piping, unless you are running a turbo to get all that excess exhaust gas flowing out of that big 3 inch pipe, then you will be running into some vaccum problems running that big of pipe on your exhaust. But, I have ran my car without the 2nd O2 sensor and it actually doesnt hurt it (much). As long as you have a o2 sensor reading your air/fuel mix you should be fine. My suggestion. Buy a nice exhaust (Greddy, Thermal, Apexi, HKS, etc) and get your monies worth. Remember in this world (sometimes) you get what you pay for... |

hondas like backpressure, when i let off my gas i hear the vaccum going on, it makes me cringe.

Actually my n1 is made for NA, and utilizes 2.25", so yeah 2 2.5" is best for NA hondas...2.5 for some headwork..

And I never recieved any CEL's or anything from no Cat and O2 sensor. Still don't have an O2 sensor and runs fine to me. |

Listen to Md and b16, they know what they're talking about. 3" is too big for a small N/A engine, go w/ 2.25"

das right 3" pipe is a bit too much, get you a 2 inch exhaust and you'll be set. I had that on my 96 4door dx with a set of pulleys, intake header, exhaust, cam gear and I denietly feltl the differnece, now I own a '02 SI and man, I miss the old sedan, some times I feel it had more of a pull at launch...but that's just me! then again I'm weary of flooring the SI.

I thought the N1 was 2 3/8? Oh well, its close to 2.25" and a great exhaust...good power, good looking, good sounding.
