A friend recently told me that getting my catalytic converter taken off of my 99 ex coupe would make a noticeable power difference. It makes sense because there would be less restriction for escaping exhaust gases. Emission testing is not required where I live, so that isn't an issue. What are the pros and cons of this, as well as what would be required to do this.

if there is no emissions then ditch the whole exhaust, just take it off after the exhaust manifold and put it in your garage or sumthin. but if you hate being loud go and have a pipe made at a muffler shop. its cheap and you will get like 8hp for just taking off the cat.

i dont know how much sense it makes to take out the cat, but easy way to do it is take out the cat, stick a crowbar thru it, and put it back on.

Whoa . . back upt there dudes. Your Honda NEEDS back pressure to run. Don't go shopping off your cat thinking that it'll make you faster. It wont!
You can have a new exhaust put on w/ a hi flow cat instead but it should still be on there. It serves a purpose.
Pluss, your obd2 ride will definately be up for emitions testing in the near future. That's something to think about all in it's self.

Good luck bro.

well.. personally i think it's kinda gay to hollow out your cat if this is your daily driver. I mean the harm you cause to the environment doesn't justify the 3-6hp increase. Also you will SMELL like rotten eggs.. not cool for the people on the road with you in heavy traffic. Just keep the cat on.

the higher amount of air being pushed in the motor...the more gain you will see if you gut your cat, replace with a high flow or a test pipe. If you just have simple bolt on's..You won't really gain too much. Plus, you violate federal law (I believe) by doing any modifications to the cat..Not that you'll be caught or you even care.
