its raining again, or so most of the country is at least starting too..
I have a CAI and Just got the AEM Bypass, What is the likelyhood of my motor hydrolocking?, and Is the Bypass really essential in order to keep water out of the motor? I live by San Francisco California, Not too bad of rain but when heavy it can stand maybe 1" off the ground in some areas, and I am dropped 1.5.. Im kinda getting nervous about this. I hear Yes and No back and forth all over the internet and between friends but what you guys think??Im sure im not the only one concerned about this, This is the first year i have a CAI, the past they've all been shortram. |

the filters dont really work. some people say.
then again other people say that in order for it to do what it claims to do you need to have your filter completely submerged under water. so what did I do? i got me an AEM SRI ![]() i dot think you have tworry about it too much as long as you dont drive through anything that looks deep enough to get you in trouble. |

You won't hydrolock unless you drive in lots of standing water and submerge the filter. I drove in the bay area for a while with my CAI, dropped 1.75" or so.

Sell the CAI and buy a turbo kit.

yeah dude for your motor to suck any water up through the intake, the filter has to be submerged, unless your driving through HUGE puddles i wouldnt worry about it

my car is droped 1.9" all around and i have a CAI. Never have i even worried about it. As long as yournot 100% filter sumerged you should be ok. But i coast though huge puddles.

i heard as long as your filter is not sumerged nothing will affect it. but i dont trust the bypass valve or what they say i would fab a box.

i did some research on this a while back and this is what i came up with.
bypass valves-they work but they are not 100 percent affective. hydrolocking-in order for you to suck water into the engine you would have to have atleast half of the filter submerged in water. i dunno. im gonna play it safe when i get my cai and either fab a box from some steel and mount it, use a comptech icebox intake, or try and use the old intake box and mod it to fit. i just dont feel like ruining the engine because i didnt try to protect it properly. maybe im overprotective of my car. lol |
