Here is what i know about how much power actually reaches the rear wheels. quoted from cars.com (Tom Strongman)

"The Real Time 4WD is a clever solution to providing the traction of all-wheel drive. If the front wheels slip or spin, hydraulic pumps connected to each axle determine that power needs to be sent to the rear wheels, and a clutch is engaged to do so. The more the front wheels slip, the more power goes to the back. Simple and elegant, always in action, this system does not rely on electronics or the driver. Honda says the only maintenance is a fluid change at 90,000 miles."

I figure this is exactly what you would want for the launch. AWD till u hook up, then just the 2WD drivetrain loss.
Has anyone here had much experience with a CRV??

i found a more technical description. tell me what u think.

"Honda calls its transmission "Real Time 4WD," a system that sends power to the rear wheels only when there is insufficient traction for the front wheels.

The heart of the system is a dual hydraulic pump unit. One pump is driven by the front wheels via an offset propeller shaft. The other is driven by the rear wheels via the rear differential.

In operation, when the front and back wheels turn at the same speed, as on dry pavement, there is no hydraulic fluid pressure differences generated between the two pumps. If the front wheels begin to slip, the front pump begins to generate more pressure than the rear.

The resulting hydraulic pressure opens a valve that feeds pressure to a multi-disc clutch. The clutch hooks up the propeller shaft to the rear differential and the differential feeds the power to the rear wheels.

The greater the amount of front wheel slippage, the greater the amount of driving torque fed to the rear wheels.

Another advantage of the dual pump system is that unlike conventional systems, Real Time automatically disengages under braking, thereby allowing an optional ABS (anti-lock braking) system to be engaged." (George Moore. cars.com)

I actually was reading my superstreet mag a few months back and read about a company that is trying to do this to and acura integra. Anyways the artical stated that there was actally an all wheel drive integra in japan made for one year, pretty rare, but maybe worth looking into. I'll run through my mags and see if i can find that article again.

thats a twin engined golf with over 800bhp, 0-60 can be done in 2.odd or over 200mph depending on how they set the gearing up. each vr6 makes around 300 brake with 100 shot of nitrous on each if i remember correctly, so even though its nearly as fast as a mclaren f1 and can keep up with a lot of bikes, its still fairly reliable.

i say go with a twin engine conv. as you still get your awd set up but if you really want you can shut 1 engine off and run in fwd or rwd i guess

The gas tank on a CRV is just behind the rear axle/differential. My girlfriend drives a 2000. She bought it because she thought it was "sporty" It wasn't too sporty when she drove it into a Suburban and put the radiator inside the block... now she's learned though... got her an RSX Type-S

i work at honda, havent heard anything like that. I know passports were made by isuzu tho... but supposedly honda broke chains with isuzu a few years back. i seriously doubt isuzu is going to take over building what was originally a honda vehicle.
