My name is Andy,

I have been a member for about 4-5 years which is how long I have had my Civic
I was a mod for about 3-4 years
I have been in to the japanese import thing for as long as I have owned my car. I was in to air cooled VW's in college however.
I grew up a V8 guy and still am a fan of "muscle" cars. Losing my license and no longer being able to afford insurance on a Mustang was the main reason I switched to Civics.
I am not in to the JDM thing, but I do have VOLK wheels and JDM interior accessories for my car. I guess I am just a fan of quality parts regardless of where it came from.
I hate rice, but I do appreciate hard work. If someone wants to do a fiberglass interior and do it right, they get my respect, but bolting on cheap parts from a parts store is gay IMO.
I don't spend as much time at a computer like I used to, but I spend most my time here, Honda-tech, and highaltitudeimports.com
I spend a lot of time on my car, my fiance's (Yo-b) Civic, and many other cars here in western Nebraska.
I work at an independent auto repair shop (just started earilier this year) I am an ASE certified mechanic and do general repair as well as run the dyno here.
I used to install car audio and manage an electronics store for over 6 years total and still have a business out of my house (I can try and work a deal for members for car and home electronics)

JDM has nothing to do with buying parts from a company that is based in japan. JDM stands for Japanesse Domestic Market as i'm sure you are aware, so this meens STOCK, what comes on cars STOCK and doesn't include the aftermarket. If just having a part thats from a japanesse based company meens your JDM well then damn i guess we all have a jdm ride because all of our hondas are based out of japan even though they are assembled in ohio. You look at my sedan and never once would you hear someone say the work JDM, even though i have parts that have been purchased from japanesse based companys. Better yet i guess i also have a EDM because i have products from companys based out of europe as well. EIther way i don't get it because it is a fad no matter how you look at it. 3-4 years ago you would barley hear to letters JDM and 3-4 years from now will be the same. But this is my opinion,
[/b]

When users buy a JDM piece ie Red Valve Cover for their Honda. It comes from Honda of Japan. A Japanese Company. JDM is not only obtaining a piece from a Japanese car. or car manufacturer Once again your are misinformed of the meaning. Trust me on this I do this for a living. No your car may not be called "JDM" or look "JDM" but there are parts that may be "JDM" influenced or are a JDM part.

Mugen is as much JDM as a JDM Honda Part that has its variation. Nismo goods from Japan are considered JDM, Ralliart, Cusco, Carbing, Ings+1, Top Secret, Spoon Sports are all Japanese Domestic Parts, plus hundreds of more companies that have been around for years. Some have the impression that JDM only refers to stock Honda or car manufacturer parts but "Japan Domestic Market" refers to goods circulating mainly in Japan. Sure it is mainly used to refer to car parts but it includes all types of industries if you want to get technical about it. So again a more depth explanation.

(Reservoir Covers, do have a function. They help absorb leaks from reservoirs during spirited driving. Maybe not the most "functional" part or necessary but that can be true for any accessory.

JDM has been around for years, you may never heard of it, before 3-4 years ago but it has been around much longer as I explained. The market is only getting more popular. Yes that makes the style not as unique but nevertheless the market will continue to grow as it is becoming a very accepted style as a clean and prestige way to customize your car. There will always be those that want parts or goods from other countries, US from Japan, Japan from US, US from Europe or US from US. But whatever you chose and style your portray, this site will have a great mixture of all. All will be accpeted. Yes open debate is welcome and always will be but must be done in again a mature and respectable and factual manner, if you look at my first post "Flaming" won't be allowed.

I think I threw this thread off topic enough. So lets get back to the reintroductions. Thanks!

Daniel
