Get IN your car, take a phillops head driver and unscrew your center console. Take off your shifter knob and lift the console out of the way. You'll see a rubber boot that pretty much keeeps dirt ect. out of your car from below . . take it out if ya can.
Well . . You are pretty much done in there. Now find a way to get underneith your ride. Either crawl under it or use a lift . . either way, here's what you'll see: There are 2 rods under there . . they are just above your exhaust. Those are your shift rods . . follow the one that goes up into your floor. That's the one you'll have to drop out. You'll see that there's a bracket that hooks it to the bottom of the car. You'll have to get a socket up in there and remove it. When you get it out, you'll have to deal with the exhaust to get it to all drop down. You'll find that a nice pry bar will assist you in this part, lol The shifter has a ball that may be snugged into place so you'll have to pull/pry on it a bit to get it to pop out/down. After the linkage and oem shifter drop down, you'll see how it all works. The shifter is connected at the bottom using a bolt . . that's all that stands between you and the new short throw shifter being in stalled. After you pop the bolt out, you can re-install the new s.t. shifter the exact same way you took it apart . . just reverse the process! I did my 4th and 5th gen in less than an hour. You'll lov the differance! Good luck, hope I helped for now. Sam - |
