ok so heres the deal, when i bought the car there wasnt any rust showing but i could see a little paint bubbling, and then the first time i washed the car and touched the bubbling, we got a hole. son of bitch...
ok heres a pic of the ride just to refresh the old memory bank: ![]() so now we have something that looks like this... btw, this is the passenger side if thats at all unclear with the pics. ![]() thats just dirt on there below the hole. ![]() and heres a picture of the same spot on the driver side, kinda what the other side looked like before i broke through, although this side seems to be ok, i cant push through it. ![]() ok so heres what i think is the story, i figure that whoever owned the car before me had a little rust problem to begin with, attempted to have it fixed and had it painted over, but didnt paint the whole car. so now im left with different coloured panels on the car (that u cant reeaaaaallly notice, but u can see it in some light), and a definate rust spot on one side a potential one on the other side. my question is, what is the best course of action to take on this biotch? if i wanna just give'r a new coat of red paint on top of fixing the rust - should i be attempting to fix the rust spot myself (never done any body work before) and then get it painted again. - or should i use my connections at honda(i work there) to find a body shop to do both for me. - OR should i just leave it, who gives a shit, theres more important things! follow up : how much would a paint job cost, like one coat of red and a clear coat i guess?

looks like your gonna have to weld some new sheet metal in place of that hole and sand prep, etc, etc and paint.

you're really lucky there. from what you've shown us, there doesn't seem to be that much rust, and fixing it wouldn't take that long as long as you have the proper tools for the job.
if you want to learn about bodywork, theres no better way of learning than actually doing. if you want the rust gone without going through as much downtime, take it to your honda connection. i cant see it costing too much to fix those areas and color matching those areas. it would probably cost you more to fix it, if you attempted to do it yourself. and if you do take it to a shop, if they are good at what they do, they won't need to repaint the entire car. they'll color match the fadedness color of red that is on the car and just paint around the areas they worked on. if it was up to me, i'd leave it the way it is and concentrate on other areas of the car unless there is water that is getting into these holes and damaging interior pieces. |

umm... NO
Get that rust taken care of ASAP, if you go look at restoration sites they will tell you that if you see a bit of rust on the outside of the car, there is a lot more where you cant see it... believe me I know and can tell you from experience it is soooo true. More than likely wherever you see the bubbling of the paint is where the rust has eaten throguh the metal and paint, and you will have to either patch the part up or replace it. Once you do that, there is this stuff p0r-15 (I think) that should be used after you get the rust taken care of, it basically paints to the inside of the panels but it will rust proof the car for at least 5-10 years more. People that restore cars and have a rust problem use it and you will find it to be a great incvestment if you plan to keep the car for a while. If you plan on doing this yourself you will need to get a welding machine, sheets of metal, and I owuld recomment a "how to" book. Rust is the car can cer and is not to be taken lightly if you wish to keep your car in good running order. Sorry to break it to you but if I was you i'd take a good look at all of the body panels, undercarriage of the car, wheel wells inside and out, give it a good once over and pray that not much rust can be found. cool thanks for the heads up guys, i think ill take it down in the next week and see what the body shop guys have to say, and depending on the price ill either pay to get it done, or take it down to my friends dads garage and he has all the stuff that i would need to do some welding.
good god i hope theres not a lot of rust to deal with, but if there is, im gonna handle it now, cuz i think im gonna be keeping this shell for a while cuz i like it. i see a swap in the distant future.. ![]()

below the rear quarter panel is a section off to itself due to the mouldings...YAY mouldings!!
So you can get off cheaper by just doing those two sides where its rusted, The paint wont look that off, your car is hardly faded at all. If you do this your looking at a possible $300-400 dollar bill max imo. |
