Question

anyone ever have rear tire clearnace really close to the suspension arm, or for that matter, any part of the suspension assembly in the rear wheels
This is on a 2000 honda civic coupe.

There's just enough clearance to spin the rear tire but the inner sidewall of the tire is about less than 0.20 inches away from main support arm.
(if you are looking at the car's rear tire from the side it's the horizontal arm sticking out from the frame supporting the rear suspension assembly)

Does anyone think it's safe if it's got that close a clearance. Or is that just too close.
The tire shoudln't move right..... but with that double wishbone suspension configuration doesn't the rear tire tilt around turns??
The rubber tire shoudln't really creep and move around to the point that it may touch that arm right?

BTW In the front i've gota about an inch of clearance from tire to frame when i make a full U-turn.

thanx in advance for your input.

Since Honda's are manufactured with a multi-link macpherson strut suspension as long as you are not hitting the control arm when sitting still and straight then there should be no problems. Basically this is because your wheel/tire combo will move the same distance and direction as the control arm does therefore the gap should never increase or decrease.
Hope this helps some.

If you are that scared you could always look into using a spacer. May have to also use longer studs though.

ewww, no, dont do that. who invented that crap, id rather see a mustang with a big wing, altezas and an r badge than popped out wheels.

if it hasnt been an issue yet then dont make it one.

by the way, its your lower control arm.

thanx for the help guys. and yes i think it's the rear trailing arm. Not sure if that's the same thing as the lower control arm.

The only movement it had is up and down as the rear wheel assy moves up and down. It seems like it's only a pivot point. Is the rear suppose to tilt side to side? this a 2000 civic. so it's got the double wishbone suspension. I'm not sure if that goes for the back too? That's what i'm worried most about the rear wheel.

The spacer i'm afraid may reduce the bolt lenth on the bolts and may ad more problems. but the most i'll relaly need is .200in but then again it may ad more weight to each wheel.

sigh* Well if anyone's got any other input or any experience with ridoing with larger tires. like 205/50/16 or even 205/45/17 (when you shold be running on 205/40/17) please post.

Unhappy

It works!!

Falken ZE512 205/50 16in. diameter tires on a 7.5in. wide rim does fit!!
looks kinda wiered though.... like the rim is too wide for the tire.....

I've only tried them on the two front tires. Hope they fit in the rear......

does anyone think 225/45 16in tires will fit on a 7.5 in. wide rim?...
