buy a clean used door, they're cheap enough for your car

Ill take pictures saterday afternoon and you guys can tell me what i should do.. probbly 7-8 areas (less then 1" in size) that need small amounts of bondo and maybe 2 big areas (4-6" spots) that do..

DIY primer work is not that hard. It just takes time and weeks to do it. So you'll look like a redneck for a while unless you have another car to drive while you do it.
When I had my Escort I did quite a few things with bondo to it. First I ripped the Ford emblem off the grille and filled it in with bondo, basically it was practice but I wanted it to turn out well. IMO it did. Stock grille with emblem: ![]() in this one you can see where I started putting it on the bumper... made too much. haha I ended up getting a new bumper for free, so I primered and painted that one red to match... i knew this at the time, so that's why I didn't bother sanding down the lumps. ![]() Close up of the grille: ![]() I also did the rear hatch. I took off the orange reflector and shaved the emblems. ![]() That one took more time to do, but IMO it was worth it. Only problem is you can see one spot where it bumps out. If I had sanded it down anymore the bondo would break out because it's just in a screw hole. Good practice IMO. I also did body work in high school, I got an A on my final grade for the body work I did, if that means anything. Working with bondo is easy, but you need to have a good eye to see any lumps or indents in the body before and after you do work. Just take your time and be patient with it. The closer you get to the body curve the more you'll never notice it afterwards. |
