Ok...here we go, I have been attempting to put my turbo in over the past 3 weeks...and things went wicked slow do to the holidays.... anyway
Heres what I have going against me. First...none of my gauges work....I have a mechanical boost gauge....and a oil temp sensor. when I turn on the car..the temp sensor goes up past 350 degrees(to the highest the gauge goes) and the bad thing, is that isnt what concerns me...the boost gauge does. as soon as the car starts up...it goes to 20 on the vac side (im not sure if its psi in vac, but whatever the units of measure are,....its at 20), But when i rev it, the gauge pops up to 0. Does anyone know. what might be the problem.. I have the gauge tee'd into the vacuum line coming off of the intake manifold... Could it just be mis wiring? |

Vacuum lines are a bitch. I'm experiencing the same probs with my setup.
Hopefully we'll both get through this soon! ![]() Good luck! (we need it) ![]() Sam - |

with the oil temp sensor you have something wired up wrong.. recheck the wiring at both the sensor and the guage.
with the boost guage that can be considered kinda normal. reving the engine can create a very slight load and if it's small the turbo will spool up just enough that you get out of vac.. and vac isn't measured in psi... but my brain just died and i can't remember what it is measured in.. I know mercury is part of the awnser.

Ok....I fixed some stuff....I had them grounded wrong....anyway, I did the same thing let it idle for a while then slightly reved it, The boost gauge now starts at 0...which is good...but it slowly goes down to like 10 in. hg(mercury) in the vac side....I tried revving it to about 5,000 rpm and it didnt phase the boost guage... Im wondering that I have too much stuff plugged into the one vacuum source on the intake manifold...I have the wastegate, fmu, bov and the gauge all into that port....Im probably gonna figure out thats too many...any thoughts?

You need a load on the engine for it to register boost, so try driving it. As for it reading vac. at idle, that's normal.

ok.. well your engine should see vac at idle.. thats ok..
That is alot tapped into one port.. wastegate should be on its own vacume port IMO because its controliing boost.. you want it to be accurate and predictable..

I personally haven't tried it yet, but it is on my 'to-buy' list. That manifold will clear up alot of headaches. |
