Just wondering how much of a role the exhaust and midpipe play with turbo? I asked on another forum and most of what I got was trash about getting a rip off. I have a Mozart twin loop replica of the mugen one (only cause it was cheap and i couldn't find a genuine used one for a decent price at the time). I know it's designed for all motor and the loop restricts air flow, but how much of a difference does that make? I know a test pipe and a straight through exhaust will perform better, but most of those sound like crap (i.e. coffe can and lawn mower sounds). I like the soft, low tone of the twin loop. The skunk2 megapower looks sweet on BMM8764's coupe but I've never heard it.

thanks
darn english turns my thoughts into paragraphs

well once you go turbo exausts aren't as raspy as you think. The turbo will muffle some of the sound and the exaust note will be a bit deeper and alot less raspy..

A good downpipe/midpipe/exhuast are important to spool up..

you want atleast a 2.5 inch exhaust

if you want a muffler like mine, you can always get a muffler shop to run 2 1/2" or 3" mandrel bent pipe for catback and then put the muffler on. should work out the same i believe.

I have a 2 1/2" Downpipe, Open Loop, 3" All the way back with no Cat, and a universal Ractive 3" turbo muffler. You would think it would be extremely loud, but it has a nice mellow tone to it, the turbo quiets things down a ton! When it's sitting at idle the car sounds like it's on steroids though.

You'll notice if you have a bigger exhaust (not sure if civics ar elike preludes). Take for example my car, apexi N1 is like 2 1/4" leaving that on there will restrict flow, backpressure is not good on a turbocharged car, you want exhaust gasses to go out asap. When you put 3" Exhaust on a turbocharged prelude, you will get a small amount of boost spike, but will go back to stable right away. As long as you don't get too big of a spike it's ok, but you don't want it to spike at like 15 psi on a stock motor before it goes back to 7 or 8.

I'm sure this goes for civics as well, but not positive. I say 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 would be great for a minimum, 3" is very much possible, and most exhaust shops will custom make one for a decent price with a universal 3" turbo muffler.

like everyone said already, you want to minimize as much lag as possible...it also depends on your set up...

if you decide to upgrade your exhaust and are on a budget, hit up Kteller8 on honda-tech cus he sells cheap mandarel pipings...then you can get a cheap magnaflow turbo exhaust...someone on HT has one for like $35 bucks...
