As you all know im swapping in a B18b (someday lol). Im also planing to go turbo with it. Yesterday I went to the junkyard to see what I could find, and I found a 1g gsx with the intercooler. The guy thier said its $50 bucks.
Question is, would it be a decent intercooler to go with? |

I'm sure it would be ok, but if you spent a little more you could get the spearco intercooler off of a drag kit. That is what I ran on my setup and never ran warmer than stock temps at 10psi daily on a b18b. Even made 8+ runs a row on the dyno with absolutely no different in engine temp and very minimal charge pipe increase. Bang for the buck it is the most efficient IC I've seen. IMO

i would pass on the dsm sidemount, unless you cut two up and make it a front mount. a good sidemount turned front mount is the Ford Probe/Mazda Mx-6 intercooler. They go for about 50 bucks on ebay or other honda sites.

just buy a front mount. You can get teh JRC for like 150 - 200 and i've heard they hold 8-10 psi with no problems.

ok edumakate eric time.... what does an inter cooler have to do with PSI , do like the joints blow out or something.. i assumed it was only a mass inlet for air.
all seriousness i dont know.. learned me |

Intercoolers are test to a certain PSI before they start to leak or not hold the compressed air. I myself do not know of were the leakage acures but i've read alot about it.

Also, to big of an intercooler can be less efficient

ok.. wait.. wanna set some facts straight...
- size of the intercooler has no effect on how much pressure it can hold. - Smaller intercoolers will have a "pressure drop" when run with larger turbos. This is when the intercooler is a bottleneck and won't let the air pass through it fast enough.. So will read higher pressure on one side then the other. - you can also have an Intercooler to big.. This isn't really a problem, bigger is better, but results in a bit more lag, as the turbo has that much more area it has to pressureize. - Efficancy of intercoolers is determined by at a given amount of airflow the differance in temperature from the outlet side of the intercooler versus in intake side. Air to air usually average around 60-75% efficiant.. while air to water can be over 100%
