After you install a block gaurd, you need to get the block honed to make sure its still round all the way down. They provide a little more stability to the tops of the cylinder to keep the sleeve from rocking and possibly blowing a head gasket. I would say if your thinking of going hardcore into boost, do it...other wise its expensive, the part is relatively cheap, but instalation and machining would prolly be around 150-200, and you prolly wont need it. Its a good addition to a block that is going to see a decent amount of boost...id say 14+psi i would block gaurd it. although theres people out there who have had no trouble with the sleeve moving and say its worthless...but my opinion is, better safe than sorry.

Don't get it unless your planning on having the block honed. The most commonly misunderstood thing about turboed cars is that it's not how much psi your block can handle, it's how much hp. It's hard to say how much boost you can run because different sized turbo's will have different numbers on the same amount of boost. Ex. A sc61 on 14psi isn't as safe as a t3 on 14psi. There are just too many factors involved. I'd say if your shooting for more than 350whp then do a block guard, but do it the right way. If you have any questions about it feel free to hit me up on aim or pm me, it's kind of hard to put it all into one post, I'd be happy to help you out.

My goal is pretty much anywhere in the 200-250whp range. Nothing over the top lol.

Good idea. I ran 240whp on my completely stock b18b for a year with no problems before I traded it in. You should have nothing to worry about. Just out of curiousity what are you using to tune?

You'll be fine without one.

A lot of ppl hate them but IMO its a good investment as an extra precaution.. I run one and all my friends run Block guards and we havent had any single problem

Yup. For your power goals, just run without a block guard. You can make that power on the stock block without any issues.
